The Six Best
Reasons To Visit Our Island:
|
Sanibel
Hospitality Oh who are we kidding? You're coming
for the beach... But isn't it nice to know you're welcome
on Sanibel Island, our friendly Tropical Southern Place
with classic southern hospitality, compact shopping districts,
lodging, shell
museums, beach activities, GREAT, FUN restaurants and
evening entertainment. Shops, restaurants, hotels and service
facilities on Sanibel are staffed with locals who know that
you are here to relax and enjoy your vacation. Well....
and to spend time basking in the sun or to look for unusual
and unique shells on one of our beaches before watching
one of the great colorful sunsets. Sanibel
has all the elements of a wonderful romantic or family vacation
(not mutually exclusive here). There's so much for the kids
to do (the beach, pools, tennis, golf, .. you'll find plenty
of time to be with your spouse. And if you are visiting
as a couple, there are plenty of places to be alone with
your special someone.

 Sanibel
Shelling -- There are over 200 varieties of shell to
be found on our beaches. The small and miniature seashells
tend to be more towards the lighthouse (East) end of the island,
while the larger ones are towards Captiva (West) end. And
Our Secret to finding the best Shells on Sanibel: At low tide
make sure to check out the sandbar. During a new or full moon
there is sometimes a second sandbar further out. It is worth
wading out to this second bar. Don't let the tide go out while
shelling, you don't want to have to swim back! It is best
to go shelling around a low tide. With a low tide, more of
the beach is exposed so you are able cover more beach. As
the tide recedes it leaves washes of materials at different
levels. Shell each of these wash lines for the best results.

Every
Accommodation on Sanibel is like new and has been renovated
within the last year. Top end luxury at the soon
to open South Seas Plantation
on Captiva and Sanibel
Harbour Resort (not on the Island, but wow what
a place) and great family hotels like the Holiday
Inn Sanibel and Sanibel
Sundial Beach Resort both on the beach and within
walking distance (or a short ride) to restaurants, nightclubs
and the focal point of Sanibel nightlife - The Dairy
Queen. In Addition, there is an abundance of Great restaurants
with food at reasonable prices. Consider Tween Waters
Inn for a Great Couples or Family Getaway.

There's
always something fun to do on Sanibel Island. Most activities
center around the beach. That's where most evening start,
watching the incredible sunsets hoping to see the green
flash. There are unique shops, shell museums, restaurants,
wildlife preserves, tennis courts, and many more opportunities
for fun and exploration on the island. AND in nearby Ft
Myers there are nightclubs, martini lounges, pubs, and music
venues. Sanibel, though, has the Dairy Queen, The
Schoolhouse Theater, The Mucky Duck, (Ok this
is really on Captiva, BUT you have to drive Sanibel to get
there) and the Ellington's Jazz Bar.

Dining
Sanibel has a great variety of restaurants. You'll find
menus offering great steaks, fresh seafood, there's nowhere
in the world that you will find fresher. Restaurants are
casual but compete in service and food with those in the
US top 3 cities. Consider the Thistle Lodge Restaurant
at Casa Ybel Resort for something formal perhaps Sunday
Brunch. Or RedFish BluFish - 751 Tarpon Bay Road
for great seafood. Or Ellington's Jazz Bar & Restaurant
937 East Gulf Drive for entertainment. Or The Hungry
Heron Fish Fry on Fridays. There are so many choices,
you will want to stay for weeks just to try them all.
